LTO-9 External Tape Drive

The LTO-9 External Tape Drive is capable of storing up to 18TB of uncompressed data or 45TB of compressed data on a single tape with various tape manufacturers specifying storage lives of 15-30 years if kept in the right conditions, this is still the most cost effective and safest solution for long term data storage

Speed is increased when compared to previous generations of LTO with read/write speeds of up to 400 Megabytes per second (MB/s) possible with the right hardware configuration.

The LTO-9 External Tape Drive is backwards read/write compatible with LTO-8 media, able to read existing tapes or write to new LTO-8 media as well as its native LTO-9.

Like all LTO technologies, the LTO-9 External Tape Drive utilises an RFID system to simplify tape identification and media management. The RFID tag integrated into each tape can be written with various information regarding the tape and the data it contains.

Connectivity is via Serial Attached SCSI 2 (SAS2).
